In a continuous effort to provide the absolute best care to patients, Union Hospital has partnered with Ob Hospitalist Group (OBHG) to provide around-the-clock physician care for expectant mothers.
The new OB hospital program at Union Hospital brings an experienced team of board-certified obstetricians on-site 24 hours a day, seven days at week to focus on providing consistent care to patients in Union Hospital, as well as emergent care to those arriving in labor and delivery.
“Our hospital-based OB physicians, will work with our community’s physicians to provide patients with improved continuity of care,” said Kristi Williams, Union Hospital Director of Maternity Services and Pharmacy. “In instances where a patient’s physician cannot arrive in time for delivery or may already be delivering another baby at the hospital, our patients can be confident knowing we always have experienced obstetricians onsite ready to deliver.”
Williams added the hospitalist would not replace a woman’s own OB, they simply extend the safety net for private practice obstetricians.
In the event that a patient’s physician is not available, OB hospitalists can proceed with performing examinations, evaluate the progress of labor and review test results and fetal heart rate tracings. Union’s hospitalists will be in communication with the patient’s physician and will have access prior medical records.
“Having this program assures a women’s obstetrical care will never be delayed. We’re excited to offer this level of care to our patients,” Williams said.
Union Hospital’s Maternity Services also offers around-the-clock anesthesiology, which ensures women in labor will not have to wait for pain relief based on the availability of an anesthesiologist.
